What is shared hosting?
Shared Hosting describes a situation whereby a hosting company uses a single server to serve pages for multiple web sites, each with their own domain name. Shared hosting is a basic and inexpensive way for a business to have a web presence, it is not suitable for websites with high traffic or with bespoke software requirements.

Yes. Due to security best practices we recommend only using PHP code in .php files.
Can I use Linux hosting for my .asp site?
No, Windows would be the best platform for you.
I've already registered my domain name elsewhere, can I use this for my Global Gold hosting?
Sure, you'll just need to configure your domain to point to our servers. Alternatively, you're welcome to transfer your domain to us, so everything is here at GlobalGold.
Is it easy to switch from shared hosting to a VPS?
We can migrate your sites from our shared server to a VPS for you.
I have multiple hosting accounts, am I on the best package?
You could look into upgrading to a VPS, which can host multiple sites. This will consolidate all your accounts onto one server and reduce your monthly outgoings.
I need a database to use with my site, which package do I need?
If your using a MySQL database then you'll need a Linux Advance package. If your using Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL 2005 you'll need to choose our Windows Advance package.
Can I use WordPress on my website?
Yes, you can either use WordPress as your main site, or link it to your main site at www.website.url/folder. We recommend you install Wordpress on our Linux packages.
How long does it take for my hosting to be set up?
We aim for all of our hosting packages to be set-up within 1 hour of payment being cleared.

What databases do you support?
We use MySQL on Linux and Microsoft SQL and Access on Windows.
Do you host Java applications?
No, we support PHP/Perl and ASP but we don’t support JSP/Tomcat pages.
