Virtualisation 'reduces costs for small firms'
Date: Friday 23rd October 2009

Virtual private servers may allow companies of all sizes to cut costs, improve IT services and manage risk, it has been claimed.
ITvoir Network's Pooja Vij said hosted technology reduces costs for hardware, space and energy usage, while also bringing return on investment benefits.
She said it is "a key element for the IT strategy for all businesses", with multiple applications able to share a single physical server.
This enables small firms especially to keep their "competitive edge" in the marketplace, Ms Vij added.
Business continuity benefits also exist, she said, as IT back-up services can be provided through the host.
She stated: "Today, virtualisation has become a critical IT strategy not only for large enterprises but also for small and mid-sized businesses.
"In addition to cost savings, it also allows companies to eliminate planned downtime for hardware maintenance."
Firms expecting high levels of web traffic at particular times may wish to consider investing in a
dedicated server, Connected Internet suggested recently.
