Virtual web hosting 'has range of benefits'
Date: Friday 2nd October 2009

Virtual
web hosting provides firms with added flexibility at reduced costs, it has been stressed.
Speaking ahead of the London Storage Expo due to take place on October 14th and 15th, John Abbot, founder and chief analyst with The 451 Group and one of the keynote speakers at the event, commented that the main change that virtualisation can offer is the isolation of workloads from the underlying hardware.
"That means increased flexibility, no need to implement and maintain a single, uniform platform for availability purposes, and significantly reduced costs due to lower redundancy and therefore higher utilisation rates," he added.
Mr Abbott went on to say that if it is properly implemented, virtual infrastructure can form the basis of effective automated backup, retention, business continuity and disaster-recovery processes.
Earlier this month, Infostor claimed that data storage costs have never in the past been under the pressure that they are at the moment.
