Virtual private servers 'can reduce data centre costs'

Date: Tuesday 2nd February 2010

Virtual private servers and related technology can be used to reduce data centre costs, it has been reported.

Writing for TMCNet, senior editor Erin Harrison claimed many firms have turned to virtualisation during the recession in order to improve operational efficiency.

She said the opportunities for firms to get value for money out of IT "have never been more abundant" than at present.

Rakesh Kumar, research vice-president at Gartner echoed this sentiment, stating that "significant savings" can be made in the data centre.

He added: "While responding to contracting budgets, IT managers are expected to deliver an ever-increasing level of service to users, and many are charged with showing tangible financial savings as part of cost-cutting measures."

Last month, Robert Jacques told Financial Director that a well-planned virtualisation strategy can enable firms to minimise their IT expenditure.
