Virtual private server skills 'are valued'

Date: Tuesday 23rd June 2009

The recession has meant UK businesses now focus on cost efficiency and the IT skills of people who can help them achieve this, it has been claimed.

Virtualisation is now a central part of the IT strategy of an organisation because of the reduction in expenditure through the consolidation of servers and devices, Hays Information Technology, a specialist recruitment company, said.

Having in-depth knowledge of a migration to virtual private servers and cloud computing is a skill which companies are more favourable towards because virtualisation can result in reduced power consumption, fewer human support requirements and less expenditure on maintenance costs.

When a company does not have the resources to deal with a move to virtual private servers, a reliable web hosting company could be the solution.

"[Microsoft] SharePoint experience is a particular skill set that employers are looking for, as this can make a real difference to the way businesses share information, which in turn has a dual knock-on effect on engagement and productivity," said James Lloyd-Townshend, Managing Director at Hays Information Technology.

Public Technology previously reported that RTE, Ireland's public service broadcaster, has deployed Microsoft's Sharepoint to increase organisational efficiency and performance.
