Date: Wednesday 21st October 2009

Virtualisation technology will remain high on the agenda for many firms during 2010, an expert has claimed.
Peter Sondergaard, senior vice-president and global head of research at Gartner, says it is one of three main issues which will be at the forefront of IT managers' thoughts next year.
Business intelligence deployments and social media are also set to dominate IT agendas during 2010, he reported.
Mr Sondergaard said IT leaders should not just invest in the server and data centre environment, but virtualise their entire infrastructures comments which could encourage firms to consider purchasing
virtual private servers.
He added: "In 2010, users will create the cornerstone for the cloud infrastructure. They will enable the infrastructure to move from owned to shared."
Sumir Karayi, chief executive of 1E, claimed this week that companies can improve the efficiency of their IT operations by embracing virtualisation technology.
He said that many servers owned and supported by companies are simply not being used.
