Over half of firms 'embrace virtual private servers'

Date: Wednesday 29th July 2009

Just over half of businesses in the UK have added virtual private servers to their IT systems, a poll has claimed.

The study by Register.co.uk found that 53 per cent of the website's readers have integrated the solutions into their computing needs, while another 19 per cent are considering the move.

Writing on the website, FreeformDynamics' Dale Vile said general feedback on the use of the servers is positive, adding that there are several "straightforward scenarios" in which they can be used.

He explained that they are beneficial for "enabling the provision of development, integration and test environments", as well as "supporting the consolidation of less onerous workloads onto a reduced number of servers".

Recent figures from Gartner found that 35 per cent of IT professionals in emerging markets plan to up their virtualisation spend in the next few months.
