IT spending 'to recover in 2010'
Monday 30th November 2009
IT spending is set to recover next year, with cloud computing and virtualization technologies being near the top of chief information officers' wish lists.
According to Goldman Sachs' latest IT spending survey, while growth will be modest, pent up demand for delayed purchases and upgrades will see firms loosening their purse strings in the New Year.
The firm expects to see four per cent growth for global IT spending "with a bias to the upside".
It was also revealed that infrastructure, application development, and systems integration are the top spending areas, as firms look to virtualization technologies such as virtual private servers and cloud computing.
Writing for PC Pro earlier this week, IT journalist Jon Honeyball said that are almost "no downsides" to investing in private servers and other virtualization technologies.
He added that adopting such technologies marks "the first step" into the modern, digital age for businesses.
