Firms 'seeing tremendous gains through virtualisation'
Date: Monday 20th July 2009
A number of firms can enjoy "tremendous gains" by developing their
virtual private servers, according to an expert.
Shay Mowlem, strategic marketing lead for HP Software and Solutions, suggested that the majority of companies have "jumped on the virtualisation bandwagon", as they recognise the reduction in both space and power use it offers.
In an interview with Interarbor Solutions that was hosted by IT-Director.com, he warned that businesses need to consider a number of issues to get the best out of the service.
"For IT to realise the large-scale cost benefits of virtualisation in their production environments they need to prove to the business that the service performance and the quality are not going to be lost," he added.
Charles Ferland, vice-president of Blade Network Technologies, recently told IT Pro that the growing use of virtual servers is not impacting on sales of hardware.
