Linux web hosting 'superior in most circumstances'

Date: Thursday 11th June 2009

There are only a select number of specific circumstances where a Windows web hosting solution will outperform a Linux-based host, one tech group argues.

Handle With Linux reports that Linux web hosting services are generally cheaper, more secure and more manageable than their Windows-based counterparts.

And while the resource proclaims the myriad virtues of Linux web hosting, it explains that the most important thing is that businesses familiarise themselves with the various hosting options available.

Shared hosting, virtual private server hosting and managed and unmanaged hosting are all touted as effective solutions for individual organisations, but the journal urges firms to research each option to find a well-tailored hosting solution.

Commenting on shared hosting, the site states: "This is generally the most economical option for hosting as many people share the overall cost of server maintenance."

Earlier this week, Linux Ubuntu website Topical Matt's Gary Sims urged businesses making the switch to Linux not to be daunted by the technical elements of the procedure as the cost and productivity returns can be great.
