Firms 'should embrace cloud computing'
Wednesday 20th January 2010
UK firms seeking to move forwards and drive revenue should give strong consideration to the potential benefits of cloud computing, it has been suggested.
Writing for Datamation, Jeffery Kaplan noted that it is time IT managers gave full and proper thought to replacing on-premises IT with Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and cloud computing alternatives.
He claimed that in light of the current economic climate, the cost savings offered by managed hosting may be vital for many organisations.
Mr Kaplan noted: "All the arguments I made for considering SaaS and cloud computing in 2008 have only become stronger as we enter a new year.
"The economy is still in disarray with plenty of uncertainty about what the 'new normal' will bring. Competitive pressures continue to intensify as barriers to entry in nearly every industry fall."
Microsoft writer Alex Boardman recently predicted that cloud computing will be one of the key IT innovations of the next decade.
Aside from low costs, it offers a flexible and sustainable IT model, he commented.
