Consumers urged to avoid mistrusted websites

Date: Wednesday 11th November 2009

PayPal has warned online shoppers to check the security of any websites they purchase goods from this Christmas.

In news which affects web hosting users, the internet payment firm has claimed that many consumers take unnecessary risks when buying products over the internet.

The company has urged people only to buy from trusted websites, which have a padlock icon on their toolbar.

Should shoppers heed this advice, businesses whose websites are not verified as being safe could stand to lose out on trade.

Garreth Griffith, head of risk and security at PayPal, said there is "no need to sacrifice security in the hunt for a great deal" this Christmas.

He added: "There are some simple steps to safe shopping online and if the deal looks like it is too good to be true then just take a minute or two to check it out."

With IMG director of operations David Smith claiming that the online retail sector continues to grow, web hosting users may wish to take note of the comments.
