Cloud hosting 'to hit mainstream'
Thursday 26th January 2012
Cloud hosting has well and truly arrived on the stage, according to a report.
Analyst Strategy Analytics said the availability, flexibility and mobility of cloud hosting services will combine to make it a mainstream solution within just a number of years.
It forecasts that global cloud hosting growth will mean revenues from the technology will hit $82 billion (£52 billion) by 2016, rapidly expanding from the $31 billion generated in 2011.
As an example of cloud hosting's rise, Strategy Analytics said cloud hosting took centre stage at CES 2012, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow held in Las Vegas.
It said increasing demand for easy-to-use, flexible and high availability solutions for accessing information fuelled its popularity at the expo, as individuals and consumers looked for cloud hosting services.
"With demonstrated cost savings and diminished security fears, all three types of cloud services -SaaS, IaaS and PaaS -are growing rapidly due to cloud computing's cost saving opportunities and diminished security concerns," said Andrew Brown, director of enterprise practice at Strategy Analytics.
According to research by BT Engage IT, cloud hosting was among the technologies businesses found most influential upon their operations last year.
