Cloud computing customers 'have various rights'
Friday 16th July 2010
IT research group Gartner has issued a set of rights that they feel apply to cloud computing web hosting customers in a bid to develop a stronger and longer-lasting relationship between providers and consumers.
The Gartner Global IT Council charter of rights deals with the ownership of personal data, establishment of service-level agreements, notification and choice about business processes, and the right one has to know what security processes a provider follows.
Daryl Plummer, managing vice-president and Gartner fellow, said the rights would drive standards and increase spending in the industry.
"These seven rights and responsibilities will benefit both service providers and service consumers," he said.
"Respecting these rights will require effort and expense from providers, but securing the rights will encourage enterprises to put more of their business into the cloud."
Last month, the research group predicted there would be a 16.6 per cent rise in cloud services revenue this year.
