'Advice crucial' before moving to the cloud
Date: Thursday 5th November 2009

Firms embracing cloud services should seek advice from an external provider before adopting the technology, it has been claimed.
David Cottingham of ComputerWorld says there is a lot of hype around cloud computing, meaning it is important to obtain expert advice from a
shared hosting provider to assess their exact position.
Companies also need to be aware of exactly how they plan to use the technology within their operations, he suggested.
Mr Cottingham said: "Cloud computing has a lot to offer, especially to small and midsize businesses.
"Your best option is to seek the advice of a vendor-neutral provider that can suggest a custom solution incorporating best-fit elements to address your needs."
Last month, research conducted by Symantec indicated that many firms view cloud computing as being a way to reduce their impact on the environment.
Speaking to ARN, the firm's vice-president of global solutions Jose Iglesias said firms believe they pass their carbon footprint problem across to their host.
