Tips for boosting email marketing opt-in lists have been offered by MarketingSherpa.
According to the marketing resource provider, it can be a good idea to get subscribers to refer a friend for email signup by offering incentives for them to do so.
For example, new subscribers could be offered a discount on their first purchase, with further discounting for every friend they refer.
Fighting typos in email addresses can also improve the quality of opt-in lists, MarketingSherpa said.
This can be done by getting subscribers to manually type their addresses twice or by offering a JavaScript validation alert box that displays the email address as entered and allows the consumer to confirm or correct it.
Businesses would also do well to encourage customers to update their email addresses should they change by adding a form for this purpose to their websites and placing reminders of this form throughout the site, MarketingSherpa advised.
Research conducted by the website in the fourth quarter of 2008 found that house list-based email marketing is viewed as one of the best channels for return on investment by business-to-consumer marketers.
