Symantec warning over junk mail

Approximately nine out of ten email messages include links or information related to spam or phishing, a new study has indicated.

Research conducted by IT security firm Symantec found that the communications - potentially including email marketing materials - originate in the Asia Pacific in particular.

However, 28 per cent of malicious emails come from European users, the firm reported –highlighting the benefits of partnering with a web hosting provider.

As reported by V3.co.uk, the number of phishing incidents increased by 17 per cent over October, with the majority of UK-based attacks being linked to banking or financial services websites.

Earlier this week, TransWorldNews warned email marketing subscribers and other web users to keep an eye out for spam messages in their inboxes.

The site urged people to ignore messages which appear to originate from questionable sources.

TransWorldNews noted that some spam messages can be used to carry viruses or launch phishing attacks.
