Firms using email marketing need a database

Companies looking to get their message across using email marketing need to create a database for their customers' information, it has been claimed.

According to Luke Stringer of Oyster Little Bourke, databases are an essential part of data management and are paramount to successful email marketing or HTML email newsletters.

Speaking at the Restaurant 09 Sydney conference, Mr Stringer made the comments to professionals who do not work in the IT sector.

He claimed that good database maintenance means businesses can contact their customers at the drop of a hat and inform them if a special event is taking place or there is a special offer on.

Email marketing is a cheap and easy way to market your business, but you need a database," he claimed.

Meanwhile, Hospitality Magazine offered advice on how to get consumers to subscribe to HTML email newsletters.

The magazine suggested that firms could offer a prize draw as a way of getting customers onboard.

According to Chris Lake, editor-in-chief at Econsultancy, e-marketing can help businesses market to new customers.
