Email 'the preferred content sharing platform'
Tuesday 17th November 2009
Despite the advent of social media, more than half of all online content sharing takes place via email, it has been reported.
A new study conducted by SocialTwist indicates that the channel is responsible for 60 per cent of all peer referrals potentially good news for email marketing campaigners.
This compares favourably to the 25 per cent who use instant messaging for sharing and the 14 per cent whose preference social networks.
According to the firm, sites such as Twitter are considered to be news broadcast platforms, rather than sharing channels.
SocialTwist president Vijay Pullur told Social Media Explorer that while Twitter is "so popular and has been growing like crazy", if you look at the data, sharing usage is extremely low.
"It has been picking up a little bit lately, but not much," he added.
Earlier this week, James Gurd told Econsultancy that web users can help increase the distribution reach of email marketing messages by sending them to their friends.
