Email marketing 'can benefit from social media'

Businesses can use social networking sites to recruit members for HTML email newsletter lists, it has been suggested.
Writing for ClickZ, industry commentator Simm Jenkins claimed that sites such as Facebook and MySpace are "under-utilised" when it comes to driving email marketing subscriptions.
"Reminding your fans and followers that you offer great value via e-mail is a no-brainer yet rarely done," he added.
All businesses need to do is ensure they provide different content in their email marketing materials than is available online.
The process can also work the other way round, Mr Jenkins added, with firms able to point email readers in the direction of their Facebook page or Twitter account.
Last week, web designer Rebecca Ritz told Sbtv.com that HTML email newsletters remain an essential part of email marketing.
