Continued growth in mobile marketing predicted

The significance of mobile marketing is only set to increase over the coming years, businesses have been told.

Gordon Borrell, chief executive of advertising research consultancy Borrell Associates, said the ubiquity of mobile devices will help boost the popularity of the channel.

He suggested that the medium could quickly supersede online marketing, should it continue on an upward trend.

"We shouldn't overlook the fact that mobile devices go with people, and tend to be very close to someone's wallet," Mr Borrell said.

"Is the newspaper under your arm when you're shopping? A magazine? A radio commercial? TV? Your PC? No, but your mobile is probably in your pocket."

Writing for ClickZ last week, industry commentator Jeanniey Mullen urged email marketing professionals to offer a 'view on mobile device' option when constructing promotional messages.
