Broadband speeds 'slow for mobile users'
Date: Wednesday 17th June 2009

A new report has revealed that the speeds delivered to users of mobile broadband in the UK are "significantly less" than advertised.
The broadband communications authority Epitiro has found that mobile broadband users receive on average 24 per cent of the advertised download speeds.
Download speeds on average for these users are just under 1 Mbps, with web browsing 34 per cent slower than speeds achieved through ADSL broadband services.
Popular broadband activities such as surfing the web, downloading music and watching streaming video were all covered by the research.
Gavin Johns, chief executive officer of Epitiro, said: "Given the growing interest in mobile broadband and its potential to address 'not spots', there will be increasing demand on operators to provide solutions that meet consumer expectations and further improve performance."
Email marketing professionals may be concerned about such slow speeds after Dianna Dilworth of DM News recently stated that
email marketing is increasingly converging with mobile marketing.
More consumers now read their emails on their handheld devices and as such,
email marketing campaigns should be formatted to be read on these screens, she added.
