Trademark owners reminded of .tel deadline

Trademark owners looking to take advantage of the new .tel domain names have been urged to ensure they do not miss the deadline for applications next month.

Managed by Telnic, the .tel domain allows individuals and businesses to easily display and manage contact details that can be viewed with any web-connected device.

No website development, hosting or technical expertise is required to take advantage of the new domain names, which "are a revolution in the use of domain names and internet publishing and ideal for individuals and small businesses with limited resources", according to Telnic.

The deadline for applications is 15:00 GMT on February 3rd and, according to registrars, demand for the domain names is "unprecedented".

Telnic recently revealed that reality TV shows such as American Idol, the X Factor, Britain's Got Talent, Australian Idol, Pop Idol and Star Academy have registered .tel addresses with the domain name consultancy, allowing viewers to place votes via their online contact repositories.
