Support growing for .music domain
Date: Thursday 4th February 2010

More than two million web users around the world have joined a campaign calling for the introduction of a .music top-level domain name, it has been reported.
Support has been evidenced through subscriptions, website friend requests and petitions on social networking sites.
According to Constantine Roussos, the creator of the .music domain, the extension is designed to provide the global music community "a unique identity and a highly visible home on the web".
This can then represent their brand name, music and music-related products and services, he commented.
"The .music domain extension presents a compelling opportunity for artists and bands to monetise and protect their music, gain exposure, and participate in a global, collective movement to connect," he noted.
Mr Roussos described music as being "the universal, unifying language".
Earlier this week, the Financial Times reported that internet users in China are subscribing for websites through overseas domain name consultancies, due to the restrictive web regime at home.
