Resellers subjected to new domain name restrictions
Date: Friday 11th September 2009

Domain name resellers have been subjected to new registration rules from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Resellers now have to provide links to an ICANN webpage when they pass on domain names and they have been prohibited from using an ICANN or ICANN-Accredited Registrar logo unless they have prior written permission.
Companies also have to supply accurate contact information if they provide privacy or proxy registration services and they must provide a link to the original registrar.
But Domain Name Wire believes there are number of loopholes in the new legislation, which could impact on the reseller industry.
Some resellers "will not properly disclose to a customer that the data isnt being escrowed. If the reseller goes out of business or has bad intentions, domain owners can lose their domains", the news provider states.
ICANN claims its new policies aimed at stopping domain name tasting have been overwhelmingly successful.
