New .tel domains 'will make info more search-friendly'
Wednesday 18th March 2009
The forthcoming .tel domain name will enable businesses to make their details easier to locate on the web for those looking for information via search engines, according to one expert.
Anthony Mitchell of the E-Commerce Times suggested that those using a .tel domain will be able to add to their search engine optimisation strategies with contact details that are easily "machine-readable".
He gave the example of a roofing company based in Toledo, Ohio, using 'roofer Toledo' as a keyword.
"Instead of search engines trying to decipher a web page full of text, information communicated by keywords in a .tel record will be easily accessible," Mr Mitchell commented.
Last week, Telnic - the company behind the .tel domain name - announced that tens of thousands of .tel domains had been set live, effectively creating the first global directory in the world following eight years of development work.
The landrush period for the domain name opened on February 3rd this year.
