New domains can 'help access to contacts'

Businesses can enjoy easy access to details through the use of .tel domains, it has been claimed.

The new sponsored top-level domains allow firms to keep contact information by acting as a directory service rather than a traditional website, reports shoosmiths.co.uk.

By using this e-commerce innovation, which will become available in the UK from December 3rd, businesses are able to store up to five kinds of details through the web address, such as links, a snapshot description of the business and records.

Companies can protect trademarks, maintain contact information and ensure an efficient system for client location by using .tel, according to the news source.

Successful applicants for the domains will have to pay £265 in order to activate the account, the website adds.

Elsewhere, the Domain Name Industry 2008 Report states there has been a slowing of growth within the sector.

The study shows a 15 per cent rise in the registration of domains in the last 12 months, down from 30 per cent last year.
