Mexican domain name battle for Apple
Date: Thursday 17th September 2009

Computer and iPod manufacturer Apple has approached the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) regarding a domain name issue.
Apple is hoping to take control of the iTunes.com.mx web address.
The Mexican top level domain .com.mx is the standard web address suffix used by the central American country's businesses.
However, this could soon be replaced with the .mx top level domain name.
WIPO is expected to finish the arbitration process within a few months in the cybersquatting case.
In 2008, Apple was successful in two cybersquatting cases that it brought against iTunesLatino.com and iTunesDownload.com via the National Arbitration Forum.
It was recently claimed by IT industry expert Shahar Solomianik that a number of high profile brands had already fallen victim to cybersquatting on the social networking website Twitter.
"While some businesses seem to have been fast enough to secure their Twitter account... some slower reacting corporations have been squatted already," he said.
