Keep domain names simple, businesses urged
Monday 5th December 2011
The most effective domain names are kept simple and easy to remember, it has been claimed.
According to Patrick Aboagye, chief executive of Danipa Business Systems, if domain names need a lot of attention to type correctly, they have limited marketing value.
He urged businesses to avoid lengthy domain names and instead pick a name that is easy to remember.
Mr Aboagye also warned companies about the use of punctuation in the domain name URL.
"Hyphens and numbers make it hard to verbally promote your website," he advised.
"This is especially important if you advertise through radio or over the phone. You do not want your customers to be unable to find your website simply because they have spelled it incorrectly."
Mr Aboagye said that, where possible, companies should look to include the business name in their domain.
