Icann seeks public views

Date: Tuesday 24th February 2009

Feedback from the domain name community is vital in helping shape the industry's decision-making process, according to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann).

The web address organisation, which was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public benefit group, is in the process of drafting its Applicant Guidebook and listening to what consumers have to say is all part of the procedure.

After gaining information from hundreds of people via the method of a domain name consultancy, Icann was able to release the second draft of the publication last week.

In a statement, president and chief executive officer of the group Dr Paul Twomey said: "The amount of feedback and its quality is really pleasing.

"We've listened carefully to what was said and that has produced many changes in this version of the Guidebook."

Further discussion in some key areas is required and that will begin immediately, he added.
