Google rankings can be boosted by .travel domains
Date: Thursday 20th August 2009

Travel firms looking to boost their presence on the internet have been encouraged to take advantage of the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers' (ICANN) .travel suffix.
According to travel industry news website Travel Mole, the new domain name extension offers firms the chance to pick up a memorable web address related to their field and improve their web presence on leading search engines.
The website notes that there are more than two million .travel domain names still available for registration and the only rule for companies looking to register one is that the website it points to must contain travel information.
According to Travel Mole, the list of companies registering .travel websites is increasing, with the Ministry of Tourism of Argentina and the Colombian Government already on board.
Steven Metalitz, president of Icann's Intellectual Property Constituency, has warned that firms failing to register new domain names with generic extensions could become victims of cybersquatting.
