Domain names, web hosting 'vital in international SEO'

Two important considerations for firms looking to achieve international search engine optimisation (SEO) are the choice of domain name and web hosting, it has been suggested.

According to Mark Jackson, president and chief executive of Vizion Interactive, the right way to successful SEO begins with domain name selection.

Top level domains (TLD) are required for each country the business is looking to target, the website claims. However, this is often made difficult as nations such as Germany want companies eyeing a TLD to have offices in that particular country, Mr Jackson said on Search Engine Watch.

On the topic of web hosting, the expert advised that search engines look at the host location of websites when trying to deliver the relevant results for users.

For international SEO to work, it would be ideal for organisations to be able to host their unique TLDs in-country. If a firm is targeting Germany, they will require a .de website and host it within the country - much like the situation with domain names.

Internet businesses could be set to benefit from a weaker pound this year, according to the Econsultancy blog, as long as they target Europeans eager to pay for low-price British goods with their higher-valued currency.
