Domain names 'should be category-defining'
Date: Tuesday 21st July 2009

Investing in "category-defining" domain names is key for those looking to make their mark on the web, according to an expert.
Jeremiah Johnson, the chief operating officer of international domain firm Sedo, has claimed that short domains that are niche and generic are most likely to prove popular than more complex alternatives.
In an interview with BusinessWeek, he added names using the extensions of other countries could also be a worthy investment, as prices for really popular domains can reach at least four-figure sums.
"Similar to traditional real estate, if you invest in the right virtual property, and hold on to it for a while, you will likely see a solid return on investment," he explained.
"However, by developing a lacklustre website into a money-making portal, entrepreneurs and small businesses will not only be making a profit, but they'll be making a business."
The Independent recently reported that a woman from Manchester recently changed her name to Princess-Rainbow.com.
