Domain names 'help carve out online presence'

Friday 28th November 2008

Domain names are important to business success because it is necessary to "carve out" an online identity within global markets, it is claimed.

Jason Gittinger, the owner of the Detroit School of Rock and Pop Music, makes his comments to the Oakland Business Review, explaining he has actually registered and launched his website one year before opening the school building.

The world of domain names is so crowded that it is vital to secure a name, he suggests.

"I needed to lock down my virtual real estate. As with the real world, real estate is also key in the virtual world," Mr Gittinger adds.

Government resource Business Link recommends firms and individuals ensure their domain names are registered in the company's name or its owner.

It states that without this, the firm itself will not own the domain name and may not have the authority to make changes to the registration. ADNFCR-2050-ID-18902374-ADNFCR
