Denic adds domain name security
Date: Thursday 20th November 2008
A password-based security measure is to be released for holders of Denic domains that wish to switch providers.
The AuthInfo system, which will be used solely for this purpose and for individual domains, is to be made available in December.
Domain holders will request an AuthInfo from their existing provider, which will make an "encrypted" version for Denic to hold, before switching over to the new one.
According to Denic, the system involves as few communication channels as possible. This means the process of changing is "easier, quicker and safer".
In April this year, Denic reported that there were 12 million .de domains in existence.
According to its data, there are about one million registrations to it every year and it is the most popular option for German users.
Sabine Dolderer, of Denic's executive board, credited the success to the "attractive services" being made available to domain holders as well as "a favourable price-performance ratio".
