Boosting page rankings 'can be a balancing act'

Date: Friday 16th January 2009

New advice which could encourage businesses with reliable web hosting to look at search engine optimisation (SEO) has been issued.

In a piece published on the Econsultancy website this week, Patricio Robles states that PageRank is one of the most essential parts of climbing the Google ladder and offers some tips on how to maximise this asset.

He states achieving success with the search engine's ranking systems involves something of a "balancing act" and that both "earning and maintaining" it involves not having too many or too few links attached to a site.

For this reason, he recommends making use of the 'nofollow' attribute on outbound links to avoid site links that Google spiders see as "spammy".

"In short, using the nofollow attribute is one of the most effective ways of ensuring that your outbound linking doesn't harm your website's SEO," he states.

This week Google issued a statement confirming that it had relaxed its rules on advertisers using its AdWords service for gambling websites.
