Virtual solutions 'allow change'
Date: Friday 12th June 2009

Opting for a
virtual private server can help to accelerate storage networking deployments, an expert has argued.
Founder of independent analyst and consulting company Krischer & Associates Josh Krischer said that storage procurement would benefit from a move toward increased levels of virtualisation.
"Server virtualisation accelerates storage networking deployments, which increases procurement," he said.
Currently, the storage software and storage hardware markets are very closely interlinked, Mr Krischer noted.
His comments follow findings from global intelligence firm IDC released earlier this week which show that the current economic difficulties are continuing to have an effect on the worldwide storage software market.
File system and management software sectors continued to expand though, research director for storage software at IDC Laura DuBois revealed.
Nonetheless, the overall downturn comes as firms may instead be looking for short-term solutions to their ongoing IT concerns, rather than investing in changing their hosting systems and upgrading servers.
