SaaS and cloud computing security spending to rise

About three-quarters of chief information security officers (CISOs) at large European businesses intend to invest more in cloud computing and software-as-a-service (SaaS) security over the next 12 months.
This is according to a new survey conducted by Infosecurity Europe, which polled top executives at 470 organisations across Europe.
Some 75 per cent of these said they were planning to reallocate or increase budgets to accommodate a greater focus on security for cloud computing SaaS, with several respondents expressing concerns over the availability of cloud-based software services.
"Cloud computing and SaaS appear to have a pivotal role to play in this new evolving environment where chief information officers are challenged to add value to the business and CISOs required to ensure that new services are reliable and secure," commented Tamar Beck, group event director for Infosecurity Europe.
A recent Econsultancy report indicated that a growing number of UK organisations are turning to SaaS for a variety of purposes, with 77 per cent using the medium for email and 74 per cent doing so for web hosting.
