Data 'becoming more important to businesses'
Date: Monday 27th April 2009

Businesses need to ensure they have the right backup solutions in place due to the fact that data is becoming more important within the organisation.
This is according to Andrew Brewerton, technical director at Bakbone Software, who commented that all kinds of data - whether it is unstructured, stored in databases or held on Microsoft Exchange - is becoming "mission-critical" to firms.
"As companies come to rely on this data, any level of availability will mean the essential business processes are unable to continue and this often has a direct impact on the revenue of the organisation," he remarked.
A recent research report from Bakbone suggested that it is now vital organisations are able to protect their data to generate sales and meet service-level agreements - which may be particularly apt for the
web hosting sector.
Its study found that 20 per cent of firms say they cannot operate normally if they cannot access their data for an hour or more.
