Business downtime 'because of IT confusion'
Date: Wednesday 17th June 2009

Three-quarters of businesses admit that the complexity of their IT systems leaves them confused.
Research by OpTier, a business transaction management company, found that ineffective IT management tools are resulting in financial consequences.
Over half of respondents said that this costs the company an average £4.64 million per year in downtime and staff time.
Moving services to a
reliable web hosting provider, rather than carrying out all IT tasks in-house, could not only reduce downtime but make a firm more efficient by deploying resources where they are needed.
According to the research, two-thirds of organisations admit they deal with around ten business-critical or significant IT problems each month.
Motti Tal, founder and business development manager at OpTier, said that the expense to enterprises has become "untenable".
"One respondent even admitted to needing a team of 14 people to resolve a single critical incident - costing the business half a million pounds in staff costs for that one problem alone," he added.
Taking some of the pressure off through deploying tasks to a reliable web host could be particularly important after Damovo UK's Glyn Owen said resources for dedicated servers and IT services are being stretched for businesses.
