web hosting provider WordPress has announced the retirement of one of its software packages.
The organisation had originally committed to maintain the 2.0.x legacy branch, which was first launched in 2005, until the start of 2010.
However, the decision to introduce reworked security improvements to newer versions of WordPress have meant it has become increasingly difficult to maintain the branch without creating new bugs.
In a blog on the company website, WordPress consultant Mark Jaquith said: "I'm disappointed that we weren't able to keep the branch maintained until 2010."
He added however that as the issue was related to security, the 2.0.x legacy branch does not "die in vain".
MailChimp recently announced the launch of the new free Analytics360 Plugin software, which can be used to identify posts that drive traffic to websites.
