Blogging platform WordPress has revealed details relating to its latest data centre for supporting blogs hosted on WordPress.com.
WordPress.com hosts blogs on its own servers, as opposed to those making use of WordPress.org, which provides software for bloggers to create an online journal and look for their own WordPress hosting provider.
The company brought a new data centre online in Chicago at the end of last year to serve the more than 5.5 million blogs it now hosts on WordPress.com.
Writing in a blog post, Barry Abrahamson of WordPress said that the new hardware consists of 150 HP DL165s dual quad-core AMD 2354 processors with between 2GB and 4GB of RAM, as well as 50 HP DL365s dual dual-core AMD 2218 processors and five HP DL185s dual quad-core AMD 2354 processors.
Commenting on these details, the Royal Pingdom blog remarked: "That's a total of 1,440 CPU cores and somewhere between 520GB and 1.4TB of RAM.
"In other words, a significant amount of computing power."
