WordPress founder says blogging is evolving

Date: Tuesday 21st April 2009

One of the co-founders of popular blogging platform WordPress has claimed that the practice of blogging is starting to evolve thanks to the rise of other forms of user-generated content.

Speaking after the Next Web conference in Amsterdam, Matt Mullenweg said that blogs will eventually become "aggregation points" or personal hubs for media such as Twitter posts and Flickr images, according to Andrew Keen of the Independent.

Mr Keen noted that this may be true given that those using WordPress hosting are able to benefit from a number of services and plug-ins that differentiate the platform from other blogging websites.

For example, WordPress launched a new offering last week, Buddy Press, which effectively lets bloggers create their own personal social network around their online journal.

"The old static blog is indeed dying. But it's being resurrected by WordPress as a real-time social media personal portal," Mr Keen said.

According to the Technorati state of the Blogosphere report, about 900,000 blog posts are made every day.
