Survey identifies preferred media features for WordPress 2.9
Date: Monday 3rd August 2009

The media feature that most users would like to see on the new WordPress 2.9 release is standalone editable photo albums, according to a survey conducted by the custom
web hosting provider's blog.
Some 17.5 per cent of respondents said they would prefer this to the current per-post gallery, while 16.5 per cent opted for easier embeds for videos and other third party content.
Completing the top three was basic image editing which was the preferred addition for 13.7 per cent of those questioned.
Other popular additions included post thumbnails, custom image sizes and revised media UI.
These findings were backed up when respondents were asked to rate each of these features on a scale from top priority to definitely not got implementations priority.
It was noted that the features which scored highly on the original question were considered a top priority more often than they were deemed simply nice to have.
Last week, WordPress announced the retirement of its 2.0.x legacy branch.
It was originally to be maintained until 2010 but reworked security improvements to newer versions of WordPress have made it increasingly difficult to keep it without creating new bugs.
