Small businesses 'to rely on ecommerce in the future'

Wednesday 3rd March 2010

UK companies are beginning to recognise the importance of online sales as they move their operations forwards, it has been reported.

In a study conducted by PayPoint.net and YouGov, 35 per cent of businesses claimed the majority of their turnover will be generated online within the next five years.

Some 58 per cent of firms said ecommerce would be their greatest growth area between now and 2014.

Commenting on the findings, Michael Norton, managing director of PayPoint.net, suggested that online payment systems, coupled with exceptional entrepreneurs, have created "strong sustainable businesses".

The comments echo those of the Made Simple Group's Howard Graham, who recently claimed that websites are now crucial for all small businesses.

Writing for the BBC, he claimed that online portals exist both as an important sales and marketing tool for growing enterprises.
