Open source custom web hosting 'helps small firms'

Open source software can offer huge benefits to small and medium-sized businesses, it has been suggested.
Robert Ackland of licensing firm the Symbian Foundation, explained that because open source programmes have a variety of different contributing developers, innovation can be rapid.
He said that when firms close source products, they are required to place significant emphasis on development, meaning return on investment diminishes.
Mr Ackland stated: "With open source, it gets a bit easier because you have lots of small contributions from companies that are specialised in their particular areas."
Joomla developer Elin Waring recently noted that the open source content management system has now been downloaded a total of 15 million times.
Last month also saw Shan Kelly tell TechEye that Joomla hosting is ideal for businesses with limited IT expertise.
