'No one-size-fits-all solution' for web hosting
Date: Thursday 23rd July 2009
The
web hosting market does not have "a one-size-fits-all solution" for ecommerce firms, according to an expert.
Armando Roggio, an online retail commentator for Ecommerce Know-How, said the needs of a company are likely to change over time so should be re-evaluated at regular intervals.
However, writing for the website, he added that an in-house HTTP server could be particularly beneficial to a majority of firms, although
shared hosting solutions can be cost-effective.
"Shared
web hosting is dirt cheap," he explained.
"In fact, in many cases I can host a small ecommerce website and get email service for a month for about what it costs to buy ten plastic clothing hangers at a discount store."
Recent research by Gartner found that 35 per cent of IT professionals in emerging markets intend to up their investment in virtualisation in the near future.
