Joomla codebase 'worth $9.5m'
Date: Thursday 23rd April 2009

New statistics have suggested that the codebase for Joomla may cost about $9.5 million (£6.5 million) to develop.
According to Peter Vescuso of Black Duck Software, Joomla has about 200,000 lines of code and is mostly written in PHP, hence the valuation put forward by his company in its most recent report.
He told CMSWire that there are hundreds of open source content management systems (CMS) that would cost more than $1 billion to develop if they were to be created from scratch.
Mr Vescuso went on to estimate that combining Apache and MySQL with Joomla would result in a platform costing about $91 million to develop.
This would be a system that "any commercial organisation can take advantage of for their CMS needs", he said.
Jack Wallen of TechRepublic recently recommended that website owners harnessing Linux make use of
Joomla hosting and take advantage of the fact that it is easy to install and has a high level of flexibility through its various modules.
