Joomla announces new version and 1.6 pre-release
Date: Wednesday 1st July 2009

Joomla, the content management system, has today (July 1st) announced the release of its version 1.5.12 and the organisation has described the update as a "milestone".
The new version contains a number of bug fixes and three moderate-level security fixes, but Joomla users are reminded to do a website backup before upgrading their content management system.
Although this version has only been released for download and upgrade today, CMS Wire has also revealed that the Joomla 1.6 pre-release is now available.
Commenting on the updated version, it noted it had "an improved menu manager, much more granular control for user management, improved content hierarchies [and] code clean-ups, dropping the package size by about 30 per cent".
Writing on the Joomla community forum, David Umlauf previously said that when tasked with running the Philly Roller Girls website, he chose Joomla's content management system because "it was the best" and fit the group's needs.
