Directories 'can help to promote WordPress blogs'

WordPress hosting customers may want to consider submitting their blogs to an online directory to further their promotional efforts, it has been suggested.

According to Loren Baker, editor of Search Engine Journal, there are a number of directories that specialise in linking to WordPress blogs, such as the WordPress Showcase, WP Count, We Love WP and WordPress Garden.

The WordPress Showcase is hosted by WordPress itself, meaning that links to blogs in this directory may be seen to be particularly authoritative in the eyes of search engines, Mr Baker explained.

He advised that blogs with "an exceptional feel, tone or design" seriously consider submitting their WordPress blogs to a directory, going on to note that the WordPress Showcase only accepts submissions from those using the blog hosting platform in "a unique or innovative way".

According to Technorati's State of the Blogosphere report for 2008, 52 per cent of bloggers promote their websites by listing their blogs in an online directory.
